Soundweaver Training
Cube Media, alongside Accessible Arts are the first organisations
in the country to train learning-disabled musicians to lead
workshops. They work alongside professional musicians / trainers
to explore the potential of a wide range of fully accessible
music equipment, much of which is designed here in York by Immersive
Media Spaces (IMS).
The equipment is extremely user-friendly, allowing the SoundWeavers
to devise their own interactive performances, compositions
or simple sound collages with ease. Movement and gesture is
converted by a device called MIDIcreator into sound messages,
which can be used to drive various pieces of musical equipment
with amazing results. By attaching a range of pads, triggers
and sensors, plugging in various live instruments, sound modules,
images, lighting and multimedia software the creative potential
of the equipment is immense.
Workshops and Demonstrations
The SoundWeavers are available to give demonstrations and
workshops up and down the country, which can be tailor made
to suit the needs of your group, irrespective of age and ability.
The SoundWeavers provide an extremely positive model of disability
for both mainstream and special school groups, as well as
various community, disability and youth groups, which complement
the inclusion agenda well.
Commissions
You can commission the SoundWeavers to produce the soundtrack
for a theatre piece or film score. Previous work includes
the live aspects of Accessible Arts 2003 production ‘Ruff
– Doublet and the Queen’ and ‘Changes’,
a unique interactive piece run as part of the 2004 SightSonic
Festival. They are currently working with Accessible Arts
and the Hands & Voices Choir on a Viking Pantomime, ‘a
funny thing happened on the way to the thing!’ , which
will be performed at the National Centre for Early Music on
the 2nd & 3rd of December 2005. (see our news
page for more info.)
