Thirsk Young Filmmakers Festival (TYFF)
Thirsk Young Filmmakers Festival started in 2002 as a partnership between the Ritz Cinema, Rural Arts North Yorkshire (RANY), Cube Media and Thirsk School. It was designed as a ‘hands-on’ festival using professional support and equipment to encourage 11-19 year olds in and around Thirsk to have a go at filmmaking and animation. In 2006 a DVD Rom has been created by the young filmmakers ‘Thirsk Uncovered’, which is a comprehensive and fun to navigate history of Thirsk and it even includes a ‘home grown’ soundtrack featuring local music. All budding directors, actors, cameramen and animators have seen their work screened at the Ritz Cinema, City Screen and as part of Teeside Universities “Animex” festival as well as The Royal Television Society’s regional festival in Newcastle.
